Empowering Youth Work through Diversity and Inclusion: Insights from the Ceuta Seminar
In late November 2023, Ceuta, Spain, hosted the influential “Strengthening Diversity and Inclusion Youth Work in Europe” training seminar, where 24 participants gathered to enhance their understanding of diversity and inclusion in youth work. Although not part of the DIVET project, this event was an important platform for ILA members to actively participate and disseminate the valuable outputs of the DIVET project.
The seminar addressed critical issues such as exclusion, xenophobia, and youth radicalization, empowering youth workers with the knowledge and tools to improve diversity management. Critical discussions centred around the meaning of diversity and inclusion in youth contexts, emphasizing respect for diverse identities and the need to identify and eliminate barriers to ensure equal participation.
Participants were introduced to various aspects, including European funding opportunities and the role of art and education in promoting inclusion. A notable outcome was the initial steps towards establishing a European Network for Diversity and Inclusion, aimed at fostering collaboration and reinforcing the principles of the DIVET project.
As the seminar concluded, the participants, enriched with new insights and strategies, were equipped to further the goals of the DIVET project, enhancing diversity and inclusion in their respective organizations and communities. The event stood as a testament to the ongoing commitment to creating inclusive environments for youth across Europe, underpinned by the ethos and initiatives of the DIVET project.
