In an engaging kickoff session on the 14th of May, participants of the “VERMICOMPOSTING: The Future of Sustainable Agriculture and Organic Waste Management in Europe” project came together in Amsterdam to embark on a journey towards sustainable agricultural practices.

The morning commenced with an enthusiastic round of introductions as participants from various corners of Europe gathered to exchange experiences, insights, and visions for the future of vermicomposting. With a diverse group of 16 individuals hailing from Turkiye, Spain, Greece, North Macedonia, and the Netherlands, the atmosphere was charged with excitement and anticipation.

Following the getting to know each other session, the agenda delved deeper into the project’s core objectives, providing a comprehensive overview of its background, objectives, and anticipated outcomes. Through interactive discussions and presentations, participants gained a holistic understanding of the significance of vermicomposting in promoting sustainable agriculture and effective organic waste management practices across Europe.

The highlight of the morning session was the enlightening presentation titled “Introduction of Vermicomposting and Good Practices in the Netherlands.” Led by ILA as the host organization, participants were treated to a wealth of knowledge and insights into the value chain in the Dutch composting ecosystem and innovative vermicomposting techniques prevalent in the Netherlands. Through detailed case studies, success stories, and practical demonstrations, attendees gained valuable insights into the good practices and methodologies employed in vermicomposting, setting the stage for an enriching learning experience throughout the project.
