UNV and NVC held an Evaluation Meeting
The Secretariat of the National Volunteering Committee (NVC) and the United Nations Volunteer Program (UNV) held a meeting on 31 May 2024 to discuss the functioning of the NVC for the 2024 period, sub-working groups, activity plans and requests for cooperation with UNV. NVC shared the processes and activities that can be carried out with UNV and stated that the UNV Regional Office in Istanbul is an opportunity to spread volunteerism in Turkey and the region.
During the meeting, it was agreed that the process of declaring 2026 as the Year of Volunteering in Sustainable Development by the United Nations should be embraced. UGK announced that it will actively support the Volunteering Outlook Country Report published regularly by UNV. It was also emphasized that the NVC has an important role to play in the project “Strengthening Civic Participation for Improving Democratic Local Governance in Turkey” implemented in partnership with UNDP, Union of Municipalities of Turkey and the Ministry of Interior. UNV stated that it can provide budget, expert and trainer support for the activities to be organized by the NVC. The organizations will share the cooperation issues with the other team members after the meeting. In the next meeting, the calendar for 2024 will be drawn up, and the work will start. As the co-secretariat of the Committee, ILA will keep supporting the National Volunteering Committee.
